A funeral service for Walter E. Southard, 77, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the Chapel at Downs Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel.

Walter was born on January 30, 1948, in Dallas, Texas to James Southard and Patty Maxine Wells Southard and passed away on February 14, 2025, in Marshall, Texas.

He owned and operated Walter's Auto Repair for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoor life, Nascar and the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Patty Southard.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Stewart Southard; children, Ronald Southard, Chad Greenwood and wife, Rosalie and Jennifer Tivet and husband, Michael; brothers, James Southard and wife, Paulette and Bill Southard and wife, Janice and grandchildren, Christina Southard, Dustin Norman, Laneigh Tivet and Noah Tivet along with other family and friends.

The family would like to thank Marshall Hospice for the care they showed him and the comfort during his last days.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
