A funeral service for Harley Wayne Spruiell, 74, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2022, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. A time for visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Downs Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

He was born on April 2, 1947, to Hershel William and Katie Mae Spruiell in Lubbock, Texas and passed away on January 4, 2022, in Longview, Texas.

He joined the Navy in 1965 and served 27 years, retiring as a E9 Master Chief Petty Officer in 1992. He married Laura Mae Dyson Spruiell on August 5, 1972, in Dallas, Texas. He loved fishing, singing, water skiing, snow skiing, camping and was a true outdoorsman. He was an expert marksman, was a gun fanatic and loved shooting. He was heavily involved at Moberly Church and belonged to the Moberly Choir as well as the Singing Men of East Texas. He was a nationally ranked umpire and was also a Navy coach. He was a button pusher. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hershel (Monk) and Katie (Kate) Spruiell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Laura Spruiell; children, Stacy Spruiell and wife, Debra Fernandez and Karna Franklin and spouse, John Eric; sister, Linda Fiegener and spouse, Dale; grandchildren, Meagan Spruiell, Colton, Spruiell, Nathan Franklin and Ethan Franklin; great grandchildren, Kaelynne, Kayden, Kaysen along with numerous other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
