Obituary

William Clay (W.C.) Anderson, devoted husband, daddy, and pawpaw, passed from this life to his eternal home on November 19, 2022.

Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at New Hebron Baptist Church in Elysian Fields with Bro. Pat Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service. Burial will be at Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas.

W.C. was born on January 17, 1935, to Robert Lee and Ola Ashcraft Anderson in Troup, Texas, being the first of four children. He grew up on a dairy farm in Blackjack, Texas and attended Troup schools. After his high school graduation in 1955, he married the love of his life, Maxine Sherman. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. A few years after marrying, W.C.'s job transferred them to Shreveport, La. There they lived for 12 years until they purchased their farm in Elysian Fields, Texas in 1971. The farm was a dream fulfilled where he raised Red Brangus cattle, had horses, and in later years registered birddogs.

W.C. worked in the trucking industry for Kroger and Red Ball Motor Freight. After leaving the trucking industry, he transitioned into the timber business working for Ark La Tex Timber and Lone Star Timber. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his favorite "job", training bird dogs.

W.C. enjoyed working on his farm, hunting (especially quail), guiding quail hunts and sporting activities. He coached many little league baseball, softball, and football teams. He especially enjoyed Elysian Fields Yellow Jacket Football. He served as the timekeeper for all home varsity games for 33 years.

W.C.'s joy was the family he built with Maxine. His love for his family was never questioned as he sacrificed daily for them. W.C. and Maxine enjoyed supporting their children and grandchildren in all their activities, traveling, and working in their church. W.C. was a member of New Hebron Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and served Him throughout his life as a Sunday School teacher, on various church committees, and by singing in the choir.  Even in his last years, as his health failed and he could no longer attend, his church was in his thoughts and prayers. He was the pastor of Midyett Baptist Church for two different periods during the 1980's and 90's.

W.C. is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; parents, Dub and Ola Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Ruth Anderson; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Royce Blundell; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Thomas Swindell; and son in law, Ricky Rogers.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Bill Anderson and wife Robbie of Marshall; Debbie Rogers of Elysian Fields; grandchildren, Bradley Rogers and wife Emily of Elysian Fields, Summer Jones and husband Chris of Houston, Brittany Dukes and husband Rob of Elysian Fields; great grandchildren, Campbell Rogers, Vivian Jones, Ricky Rogers, and Maddie Dukes; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the love and care he received from special friend, Earnestene Roberson, Heartsway Hospice, and Marshall Manor during W.C.'s final days.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to New Hebron Baptist Church.

Serving as pall bearers will be Bradley Rogers, Chris Jones, Rob Dukes, Tim Sherman, Andrew Sherman, and Chad Crisp; Honorary pall bearer, Aaron Sherman.
