A funeral service for William "Bill" Abernathy will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:00a.m. Br. Craig Evers will be officiating the service. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Downs Funeral Home.

William "Bill" Abernathy 76, of Marshall, Texas was born on October 30, 1942 to his parents, Elzie Isiah Abernathy and Freda Juanita Deason Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy passed away on October 21, 2019 in Longview, Texas. Anyone who knew him knew that he loved anything outdoors like hunting, fishing and farming. He enjoyed a full life. Mr. Abernathy served in the Navy for many years getting to see a lot of the world during this time of his life. Above all, he loved his wife, family and grandchildren.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, Virginia Abernathy; children, Billy Abernathy and wife, Hazel, Jeanie Kuhn, Velinda Abernathy, Walter Abernathy and wife, Connie, Austin Abernathy and wife, Theresa, Justin Abernathy; sister, Juanita "Suggy" Griffin and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Tiffany Ford and husband, Joseph, Patrick Abernathy, William Doss, Kaitlin Walker, Dylan Abernathy, Peyton Abernathy; eight great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish Mr. Abernathy's memories are numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Mr. Abernathy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bert Lee; grandson, Logan Abernathy.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that any donations be made to Kindred Home Health.
