Funeral services for William Alford, Jr., 70, of Marshall, will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Gardens Cemetery. William Alford, Jr. was born August 18, 1943 to William and Jesse Alford. He departed this life on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas. At an early age he united with the Peters Chapel Baptist Church in Karnack, Texas. He attended Karnack Public Schools, and is a United States Army Veteran. William was a licensed barber and owned Alfords Barbershop in Karnack, Texas for many years. He also worked at Thiokol Ammunition Plant for 30 years. William was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Ashley Alford; and siblings, C.O. Alford, Bobbie Alford and Jeanetta Davis. To embrace his memories he leaves his wife of 46 years, Helen Alford; one daughter, LaTasha Murry (Sedrick) of Marshall, Texas; three grandsons, Damarion Murry, Justin Murry and Ashton Alford of Marshall, Texas; two sisters, Myrtle Jean Mitchell (Rev. Mitchell) and Quillie Mae Williams, all of Dallas, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Washington of Marshall, Texas, Carrie Lane of Austin, Texas; and one brother-in-law, Daily Washington of Ft. Worth, Texas. William will also be remembered by a special niece and nephew, Sheneque and Ronnie Thomas of Marshall, Texas and special nephew, Donell Franklin of Ft. Worth, Texas. He will be greatly missed by all of his relatives and friends.
