Graveside services for William Alvis Jones, 83, of Marshall, TX will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Little Chapel By The Lake at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, Texas. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Jones passed away September 30, 2014. William Alvis Jones was born June 26, 1931 in Marshall, TX to William Delmar and Eva Ruth Miles Jones. Mr. Jones served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with a degree in electrical engineering, retired in 1991 after 40 years as an electrical engineer with SWEPCO, was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 683. He loved fishing, and liked to play music and golf. Mr. Jones was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene. Surviving Mr. Jones are his children, Debra Elaine Harley and husband Thomas of Elysian Fields, Stephen Randy Jones and William David Jones and wife Amy, all of Marshall; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Jones; 2 brothers, Johnny and Roy Jones; and 1 sister, Beatrice Jones.
